अफ्रीकी देश Ethiopia के Afar Region में स्थित Hayli Gubbi Volcano ने हज़ारों साल बाद अचानक Explosive Eruption किया, जिससे Atmosphere में एक विशाल Volcanic Ash Cloud बन गया और हज़ारों किलोमीटर दूर तक फैल गया। वैज्ञानिकों के अनुसार यह Eruption लगभग 10–12 हज़ार साल बाद हुआ है, इसलिए इसे Geological Timescale पर एक Rare और High-Impact Event माना जा रहा है।
इस Eruption के बाद Volcano से निकली राख और Sulphur Dioxide लगभग 13–14 km यानी करीब 45,000 feet की ऊंचाई तक पहुंच गई, जो कि Long-Haul Flights की सामान्य Cruising Altitude मानी जाती है। High-Level Winds के कारण यह Volcanic Ash Cloud Red Sea, Yemen और Oman के ऊपर से गुज़रते हुए Arabian Sea के रास्ते West India और North India की ओर Drift करता हुआ दिखाई दिया।
India में DGCA और IMD ने Aviation Sector के लिए कड़ा Advisory/SIGMET जारी किया और Airlines को Direct Instruction दिया गया कि जिन Air Routes पर Volcanic Ash Trace हो रहा है, उन्हें तुरंत Avoid किया जाए या Re-Route किया जाए। Volcanic Particles Aircraft Engines, Windshield और Critical Sensors के लिए अत्यंत Corrosive और Damage-Causing माने जाते हैं, इसलिए Preventive Action के तौर पर Multiple Flights को Cancel, Divert या Delay किया गया।
IndiGo, Air India और अन्य Indian Carriers ने Middle East, Europe और कुछ Domestic Sectors पर Operate होने वाली Flights के Routes बदल दिए, जिससे कई Passengers को Rescheduling और Long Flight Time का सामना करना पड़ा। कई Flights को Mid-Air Re-Route कर Alternate Airports पर Land कराना पड़ा, जिसके बाद Aircrafts की Detailed Technical Inspection की जा रही है ताकि किसी भी तरह की Ash Deposition या Engine Impact को Time पर Detect किया जा सके।
Delhi-NCR में पहले से ही “Very Poor” Category का Air Quality Index चल रहा था और Volcanic Ash की News के बाद Local Population में AQI को लेकर अतिरिक्त Panic देखने को मिला। लेकिन Meteorologists और Air Quality Experts ने स्पष्ट किया कि ज्यादातर Volcanic Ash Upper Troposphere में 8.5–15 km की Height पर Suspended है, इसलिए इसका Direct Surface-Level AQI पर बड़ा असर नहीं दिख रहा, जबकि Ground Pollution का Major Source स्थानीय Emissions, Weather Conditions और Seasonal Biomass Burning ही बने हुए हैं।
Latest Trajectory Models के अनुसार Dense Ash Plume अब धीरे-धीरे India के ऊपर से Eastward Shift होकर China और आगे Western Pacific की दिशा में Move कर रहा है, जिससे Indian Airspace पर Immediate Risk कुछ हद तक कम होता दिख रहा है। हालांकि Aviation Authorities और Weather Agencies Continuous Monitoring Mode में हैं, क्योंकि High-Altitude Volcanic Events का Impact कई दिनों तक Flight Operations, Visibility Pattern और Regional Climate Parameters पर Intermittent रूप से देखा जा सकता है।
